I’ve been thinking about luxury automakers lately in terms of who does luxury the best. Rate mainstream luxury brands in the order of the best luxury.
Mine:
BMW
Mercedes
Cadillac
Jaguar/Land Rover
Lexus
Audi
Infiniti
Acura/Lincoln (tie)

Define “luxury”. More toys? Best ride? Quietest? Most opulent? Exceptional build and craftsmanship?

I am not sure with the exception of RR that any of the luxury are so much about luxury as about high speeds and outdoing anybody else with stupid features.
But here is my list if I really wanted a luxury car not so mainstream:
1. Rolls-Royce
2. Aston Martin
3. Maserati
4. Mercedes
5. Bentley
And to play by the rules:
1. Maserati(I think they count, because they offer close alternatives to the more mainstream also they have Chrysler switches in them, how much more mainstream you can get?!)
2. Mercedes
3. Jaguar
4. BMW
5. Audi
6. Lexus
7. Cadillac
8. Lolvo
9. Alfa Romeo(with some old models and I really hope Sergio realizes his dream to get the brand out of the ditch)

Come on man John Deere with cupholders is clearly in the top 5 at least.

i think you’re going to have to compare the flagship models for each of these brands. otherwise... comparing a CLA with a 7 series and an A6 with a F-type, youre going to get confused. that said...
1. mercedes S
2. jaguar XJ (as someone said before, the supple, supple leather)
3. Lexus LS
4. BMW 7
5. Audi A8
6. The rest...

This can always come down to personal preference as well as some brand loyalty. I think Maserati may need to make this list as they have the Ghibli now which is aimed more to the 70k-90k range which can be some of the higher end of many of the brands listed. Ze Germans tend to take top billing here most of the time and for good reason.
Now, which Brand has the best basic luxury cars? I’d almost always vote Merc because their stuff seems too be aimed at that. Audi and BMW tend to be a touch more functional vs luxury for me. Now, once you get to the 100k+ car for Luxury, which would you prefer? The R8, LFA, M5/6, and all the lettered cars of Mercs I can never keep up with.
I will say the Caddies CTS-V is still an impressive car.

Depends on what price range / size you’re looking in.
The leaders as I see it:
< $50k, BMW 3-series (Small)
$50k - $75k, Jag XF (Medium)
> $75k, Tesla (Large)

Mercedes (Bias but that S Class is in another world)
Audi (majority of their interiors are extremely nice)
BMW (Spartan interior but the quality is second to none)
Lexus (features and build quality is actually spot on)
Jaguar/Land Rover (tough on this one because the Range Rover is pretty far ahead luxury wise)
Infiniti (Meh)
Acura/Lincoln
Cadillac (not impressed by the CTS or ATS I sat in at the car show)

Lexus LS400.

Assuming luxury as in nonessentials:
Mercedes-Benz
Porsche
JLR
Maserati
Audi
BMW
Cadillac
Lexus
Volvo
Infiniti
Acura
Lincoln
Buick
Alfa Romeo
Hyundai/Kia (top end)
GMC (Denali)
Toyota (top end)
Chrysler

I would also argue that 50% of RAM (especially Laramies) compete directly with GMCs Denali. In fact if Laramie became a full sub-brand, I would consider it the same as GMC. If Denali became it’s own brand (Cadillac Trucks) it could easily slot around Lincoln and Acura.

Personally, I thought the interior of all the Audi vehicles I sat in last year at the LA Auto Show were about on part with Honda’s Accord leather interior. Nothing special. Their quality has dropped in the last handful of years.
